1997-1998: Nature Series Watercolor Sketches

Nature is a source of visual, emotional, and spiritual inspiration. Painting abstractly from nature allows me to express not only what I see with my eyes, but with all my senses. When painting on location, alert and attuned to my surroundings, the challenge is to effectively use composition, color, form and light to create an image that reflects pure experience.

From 1996-1999 during the spring, summer and fall, I painted watercolors outdoors, mostly at Old Westbury Gardens in NY. These watercolors came to serve as inspiration to the larger oil paintings finished in the studio. This series of paintings reflects my ongoing study and love of nature.
